WHO ARE WE?

We are a big group of female students wearing the Islamic head scarf and attending several universities in Turkey.

We Want Our Education Rights! Entrance to universities in Turkey requires long hours of studying and great self-discipline. After succeeding in the entrance exams, we earned the right to attend these universities, just like any other successful student. During our stay at our universities, many of us have earned appraisals from the faculty due to our academic achievements. For a while now though, our rights to attend our universities have been taken away from us. THE REASON: our head scarves.

Unfortunately, we have been considered as students unsuitable for our universities; students who are anti-secular and politically motivated. However, our head scarves have nothing to do with politics in any way. We are Muslims by faith, and as Muslim women, for the sake of modesty, we are required to wear a head scarf (tesettur or turban).

We love our country The human rights violations against us, the students wearing the head scarf, have been going on for a while now in Turkey. However, these violations have escalated greatly during the first quarter of 1998. The two universities where the tension can be felt grealty are the Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty and the Capa Medical University, therefore this site will mostly be dedicated to human rights violations at these two schools.

ALL WE WANT IS JUSTICE FOR ALL AND WE NEED YOUR HELP TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL.
